Aluminum Material for Dash

Aluminum Material for Dash

(OP)
I am going to build an Aluminum dash and I am looking for the correct Aluminum material to order.  It needs to be soft enough to work with and be weldable.  Most likely it will be 22-20ga (.029"-.036").

Thanks

RE: Aluminum Material for Dash

3003 is a standard grade of aluminum that can be formed and welded, and is readily available in small thickness sheet/strip.

how about 1100?  A friend has told me that this is common also.

RE: Aluminum Material for Dash

1100 is another common sheet alloy, commonly used for making foil.  It is quite low in strength, which is why I recommended the 3003.

Thank you very much!

Small quantities of textured 3003-H14 are also available from McMaster-Carr.  Nice non-glare surface that hides scratches and minor blemishes.
