Insert component default ghost - very annoying.....

Insert component default ghost - very annoying.....

I was just having to do some pictures for the legal types on a law suit deal.  It seems that in SW2004, when you insert an existing component in a assembly it decides on some apparently random part it thinks you want.  A complete ghost preview shows up and you then have to browse for what you really want.  This is very annoying - specially when the component it latches on to is a very complex subassembly, consuming time to even display it every time you want to select some simple little part!!!!!  Is there an easy way to turn this off?  BTW: Insert component existing (used to be from file) now takes a whole lot more picks to get there - not exactly a performance or efficiency improvement!

Havn't had your preview problem ... yet, so cannot help.

As for the Insert thing, try using the Insert Components icon from the Assemblies toolbar. Thats one less click, but you still have to click on Browse.

RE: Insert component default ghost - very annoying.....

I did this John:
1. Open a new assembly
2. Under options in the Feature manager deselect 'Start command when creating a new assembly' and 'Graphics preview
3.Click ok
4. Close this assembly
5. When you open a new assembly now, it will be like it was in SW2003

Roller ...

When I goto my System Options Page / Feature Manager ... the only options for me to Check or Uncheck are:
     - Scroll selected item into view
     - Name feature on creation
     - Arrow key navigation
     - Dynamic highlight

I can't even find "Start command when creating a new assembly" to uncheck or check ???

Well, duh!...... thanks Roller1.  It was right in front of my face.  Shows up in the insert component property manager every time!!  I did not even notice this during 2004 beta testing.

RE: Insert component default ghost - very annoying.....

Cheeseburger,

These options arent under Tools > Options like most options. As John mentioned above, they are are part of the 'Insert component' property manager (Insert > Component > Existing Part/Assembly).

...and speaking of Tools Options.  It disapppeared on my sysemt after we loaded 2004.  Showed up with no files open for just system options, but as soon as I opened a file it went away.  Suddenly showed up again today right after customize.  It was not hiding under the menu expension or anything either.  Wierd!!!!! and illogical.
