Revision vs. New Part Number?

Revision vs. New Part Number?

Revision vs. New Part Number?

(OP)
I would like to get the group's input on the rules governing revising a part vs. issuing a new part number.
As I understand it a part gets a revision level increment if the part is interchangeable (form/fit/function). When the part/assembly is not interchangeable it gets a new part number.
Thanks,
Louis

RE: Revision vs. New Part Number?

Here a part/assembly gets a revision level increment if the part is interchangeable & backwards compatible. If this is not true it gets a new number.

RE: Revision vs. New Part Number?

I agree with alexit, the parts has to be backwards compatible as well as meet fit/form/function requirements to only get a revision change.  If it's not backward compatible or does not meet F3, it should get a new part number.

Thanks. That is what I thought, I just needed confirmation.
