Solid Edge and EDMS systems

Solid Edge and EDMS systems

Solid Edge and EDMS systems

(OP)
Hey

I have been an SE use for about 3 years
Where I used to work, the compnay created tif files of the
SE drawing and stored the tif on a drawing retr. sys.
(indexing system - IIRC based on RXIndex)

I did a spot of contracting on Solid Works and that company used a piece of Solid Works software in which to store the drawings from SW and their old 2D system.
They called it a "drawing vault" where the vault gave you a copy of the drawing to work on, and following the mods, you replaced the drawing into the vault at the latest issue.

Where I work now needs some sort of indexing system / EDMS
Currently one SE operator has to print every drawing when people ask for it !
We were not even using SmartViewer !
Now we have smart viewer - people have to learn where drawings are stored on the network

**

Currently a part number is taken from an excel spreadsheet (which allows searches on the descriptions etc.)
The drawing is done in SE and the DFT file is coverted
to a PDF and a hyperlink is added to the excel spreadsheet to the PDF

All the SE files (par asm and dft) sit on a network drive along with its PDF

However, only 100 or so of the DFTs have been PDF'ed
5000 require converting
There are also paper drawings which need "adding to the system" as is said here.
Im not sure what the Director means here. I think he means drawing on SE !!
I think scan and add to the indexing system in pdf or tif format.

Basically, I would like the groups thoughts and advice of what I should consider when getting this Office onto a system where any employee can access any drawing

TIA
