Blackening

Blackening

Blackening

(OP)
What is Blackening? Is it a chemical treatment? If so what is the chemical to use and to what microns of depth the blackening can be done to the base material. What are the base materials can be blackened?  What are the preparatory operations to do before the chemical treatment? Any other colouring is also possible?

RE: Blackening

We use a process called Blackfast, supplied by a company called Blackfast. I can't recall the chemistry, but it works well with steel and cast iron, although castings tend to drink it!

Try www.blackfast.com I think there are datasheets on the process there.

Hope this helps
