Strength of weld materials

Strength of weld materials

Strength of weld materials

(OP)
Where can I find information on the allowable shear stress for different weld materials?
Thanks,
Greg

RE: Strength of weld materials

The American Welding Society (AWS) publishes voluminous material on this subject:

http://www.aws.org/

You can also look in the AISC Steel Manual (ASD for allowable stresses), chapter J. The problem here is that the actual weld materials are not spelled out. But, if you know the tensile strength of the electrode (such as 70 ksi or 60 ksi,) you can calculate the allowable stress from Table J2.5.
