Temperature Actuated Dampers

Temperature Actuated Dampers

Temperature Actuated Dampers

(OP)
Has anyone heard of a damper actuator that is not pneumatic or electric and can be actuated at certain temperatures?  Something like a spring actuator with a temperature sensitive spring that actuates the drive springs.

We have an existing brick building with a flat roof.  The space above the ceiling of the top floor and below the roof is ventilated with several open wall louvers.  I need to close off those louvers in the winter months.  I want to put dampers behind the louvers so they can be opened in the summer months and closed in the winter months.  It would be very expensive to run power or pneumatics to the louvers since those lines would have to be run through areas that are contaminated with asbestos thus the reason for my post.

RE: Temperature Actuated Dampers

I have seen these advertised on "Solar" energy catalogs for green houses etc. I know that Jade Mountain sold them but they were bought out by real goods, who does not carry all the stuff that jade mountain did.

RE: Temperature Actuated Dampers

I would recommend the installation of remote damper operators. They are cable operated and connected to a wall knob which can remotely open and close the dampers from up to 25' away...if you need more let me know

Thanks, for your reply's.

GOTWW, I could not find those dampers listed on the real goods webpage so I guess they did not pick up that line up from jade mountain.

SplitMaxWax, looks like the cable operated dampers might be the way to go.  Thanks.

RE: Temperature Actuated Dampers

I agree w/ SplitMaxWax that cable operated dampers are the way to go. You were originally thinking of wax & spring operated dampers by Thermafuser. I don't think the Thermafuser device will be economical nor will it work well for your purpose.
