(OP)
Hi all,
What is the best way to model a weld to determine the actual weld stresses?

RE: weld stresses

Don't bother. From the nodal forces in adjoining elements calculate the weld stresses

corus

RE: weld stresses

Stresses within a weld are masively complicated, hence why Corus states not to bother. Obtain the nodal forces as suggested and do a hand calculation based on the type of weld (fillet, full pen., part pen. etc.) using the appropriate code (BS5950 etc.) for guidance.
