How to separate caps with same height and different diameter

(OP)
There are two different caps that we need machine to separate them. They are the same in height(around 50 mm) and different in diameter (150mm and 180 mm ). The parts are made in plastic and mixed with same amounts. Can you give me some thoughts to build this machine?

RE: How to separate caps with same height and different diameter

Try 2 L shaped rails so that the insides of the vertical leg of the L section are say 181mm apart, with a gap between the foot of the L section at say 151mm, push the caps along the rails the small ones will drop thru' whilst the larger ones will stay on the track.

Try speaking to manufacturers of Vibratory Bowl feeders (well thats what they're called in the UK) these folks are used to these sorting problems and will provide a nice simple solution.

RE: How to separate caps with same height and different diameter

Here is the website of Syntron, a maker of vibratory feeder and handlers, and as finman states they should be able to help you or steer you in the right direction.   We used several types, large and small, of their feeders over the years with great success.
