Deck Corrosion Protection

Deck Corrosion Protection

Deck Corrosion Protection

(OP)
What are some ways to prevent excessive corrosion of concrete and its reinforcing in a parking deck?  We're looking at a double tee, prestressed system with a topping.  The deck is entirely outdoors and exposed to rain and snow.

We've assumed that epoxy coated rebar in the topping would be appropriate.  Corrosion inhibitors in the mix?

What else could be considered?

RE: Deck Corrosion Protection

There are a number of deck coatings available with a urethane base coat and various intermediate and wear coats with various types of aggregates for wear resistance.  This is the best option but a hard sell on a new garage.  In twenty years they'll sure wished they had!

Otherwise, deck sealers are the most economical but have a short life.  Cathodic protection is available also.  See ACI's Design of Parking Structures for info.
