Good afternoon,
I'm running a thermal analysis on an assembly today that I haven't worked with in months. Back in September the analysis ran fine. Today if I run it (on the exact same assembly file) I get the error "Execution abort in DIRCOS".
I've tried running an analysis on a new assenbly using only a couple of the 21 parts and no error. I've rebuilt my assembly from scratch (all 21 parts) in a new file and the error returns.
Any ideas?

Not everyone has VAR support! My employers are too cheap ...too Short Sighted ...too UNCARING ...TOO STUPID (...take deep breath ...count ...1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 ... breathe out ...OK ...I'm back) to see the benefit of paying for support ......hence the reason I joined this forum. It is probably the next best thing to VAR support ...maybe even better as it's free

Try running an analysis on each part individually to see if there is a specific part causing the problem. Alternatively, open the assembly & suppress all but the first feature, run the analysis, unsuppress the next feature, run analysis, etc. I realise this might take a lot of time, but it's the only thing I could think of.

Just Cut & Paste the standard Character Map keys supplied with Windows or use the "ALT" key equivalents.
° = "ALT" key & 0176
± = "ALT" key & 0177
Ø = "ALT" key & 0216

I tried that "Holding down the alt key and then to key in 0176, but it did not work. Sorry but what am I doing wrong?

I don't know! Are you typing the 0 as alpha or numeric? It should be numeric (zero).
Try it in a regular word processor (Word, WordPerfect, Notepad, Wordpad, etc). If it doesn't work in those, the problem is with your computer ... or you!
Also try cut & paste from the Character Map in Accessories.

I found some in Word under; Insert, Symbols, under a few fonts.
But they show up here as ? and ? and ? when I do cut and paste into here. Well, just skip it for now I can use the words instead.

Using COSMOS in assemblies can be tricky, at least for stress analysis. I have no experience with thermal studies but I gess the problems can be identical.
Try to create alternate meshes, with alternate options and sizes, I try to figure out if you improve the model and avoid the error.
If your model have parts with very different sizes and thiknesses, COSMOS can experience som difficulties creating a proper mesh.
Carefuly check for interference between parts. Even a micron sized interference can prevent the processor to work successfuly. In this is the case, try a micron sized gap (this works better than the interference)

My issues with COSMOS is that a thermal analysis will run perfectly on an assembly one day (messing and results) and completely crash on the same assembly the next day (simply open the assembly and run the analysis). Once COSMOS "decides" it doesn't like and assembly, there seems to be no way to recover it. I always have to start from scratch. No that I know this, from working with COSMOS for the past year, I ALWAYS make copies and back-ups to save time when the crash occurs. Not the ideal solution.

That's strange! Never heard of such behaviour.
Check Cosmos site and verify if there's a new SP available.
If you can't contact your VAR, you will need to find out for yourself! In this case try to carefuly run some experiments and be more specific.
For example: does this happens with other assemblies? can you filter a part or parts wich lead to crash and analyse them carefuly? what do you axactly mean with one day and next day (you run the first time and crashes in the second?)? can you run this in other computers?....
I think that, with some trial and error (and time!) you will find out what is happening. Meanwhile you can keep us informed of the results, so we can come up with some idea.
