Hi,
I am a systems engineer in the defence industry who does not get particularly involved in power systems and distribution. Can anyone enlighten me as to the reasons for the move towards variable frequency power in aircraft ( say up to 700Hz). I would have guessed that this introduces additional complexity into the systems receiving power and maybe throws up EMC problems too.

Essentially, it will use 400Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz, and other specialty frequencies as required
