Patterned Equation "patterned hole with increasing distance"
Patterned Equation "patterned hole with increasing distance"
(OP)
What i am trying to do is find a way to pattern a hole/object/etc. What I need to do is increase the disatance between the holes/objects. I.e. First distance is 2inches and the next 10%more and the next 10%more than last dimension... Can anyone help.

RE: Patterned Equation "patterned hole with increasing distance"
Sketch driven patterns are great for inserting patterns that vary, or patterns that dont even follow any geometric rhyme or reason .... wherever it sees a point in the sketch.. it will insert another instance of the feature!

I think the solution works, but there´s a problem: you have to create the points, the dimensions and the relations. Too much work to do.
SW should have a variable pattern (in wich we could insert a driven equation). Don't you agree?

There are far more important things to concentrate their development time & money on than that!

Oh yeah do you think solidworks will ever keep a relationship between arrayed objects in sketches. When I array an object and decided to change it and modify the dimension it gets all wacky on me. any solutions?
RE: Patterned Equation "patterned hole with increasing distance"
1) "I guess you can call me lazy!"
OK...You are lazy!!!
2) "When I array an object and decided to change it and modify the dimension it gets all wacky on me. any solutions?"
No..but you should probably start a new thread for this and if you do, be a bit more explicit? I have never had any problems with modifying arrays. What version of SW & SP are you using.

Avoid confusions. One thing is being lazy; another thing is being productive.
So, Divisionwon, I think you are being smart if you looking for new tools and methods for doing more with less. You will be ahead your competitors.
Productivity, time to market,... is not what 3D CAD is all about? So I don't know what should be more important in a CAD manufacturer than provide their clients with the most efective, productive and usefull tools.
I am shure that there are many things that should be developed in SW, but variable pattern is an important tool (it's a very productive one and I bet many of us would like to have it). I don't know what could be far more important than that.

Avoid confusions. One thing is humour; another is taking things too literally.
Divisionwon made an offer to be called lazy...I took him up on his offer

Forgot to mention in my last post that I cannot, in my 30+ years in design, remember a project where I could have used a Variable Pattern and "I guess you can call me short sighted" but I cannot think of where I ever might. I am sure there are others like you & Divisionwon who would use it frequently, but I have to disagree that there are enough users out there to warrant SW using their resources for such a feature, when the Sketch Driven Pattern feature already exists.
BTW: You asked the question "Don't you agree?" and I said No.
No offence intended but, if you are not prepared to receive answers which don't agree with your position, then perhaps you should not be asking such questions.
As for everything else you said, re-productivity, effective & useful tools, etc, I agree 100%.

I'm not english and I think you are recent in this forum, so don't be upset if I'm lacking some humor perception. Some of our friends use humor in their posts often (and that's good), but, as I allredy know them, I can really tell when they're joking. The forum is a bit impersonal way to comunicate, so it's easy to be misunderstood.
I am not offended when you said No. It's your opinion and I respect that. Don't misunderstand me (now it's your turn). I was only justifying why I disagree with you.
Geting back to our discussion, table driven pattern is an alternative but still with to much job to do, comparing with variable pattern offered by other CAD systems. I also think that sketch patterns are a bit messy.

I'm impressed. I did not realize you were not English. Your use of the written language is excellent! Better than many of the posts I see here
I apologize if my style of humour is not obvious. I grew up listening to the likes of The Goon Shows, the Navy Lark, The Carry On Gang, Monty Python, etc, so my humour may be a little .... warped?
