Post-tension slab question

Post-tension slab question

Post-tension slab question

(OP)
I am new to post-tension slabs.

How are column loads handled when using a 7" post-tension slab?

Thanks

RE: Post-tension slab question

Vertical loads are the same as any other slab.  You also have to check the column against the moments in the slab.  There is no big difference from a conventional slab.

Like I said, I am new to this.  I have designed footings to handle the vertical loads but in a an area that uses post-tensioned slabs, traditional footings are not used, right?  If that is the case, how do I model that load on the slab?

RE: Post-tension slab question

Our firm has designed some post-tensioned slabs for lightly loaded PEMB structures and the footings are handled the same as the footings for a conventional slab.

We size the footings as we normally would and use conventional reinforcement in the footings.  Obviously, if you are in an area with expansive soil, it is imperative that you ensure proper support for these footings as directed by a soils report.
