TEFC Motors in Class I Div 2 areas

TEFC Motors in Class I Div 2 areas

(OP)
Hi Folks,
It's my understanding that the NEC allows the use of Non-XP AC squirrel cage motors in Class I Division 2 areas, as long as the motor surfaces won't exceed the temperature classification.

Does anyone know whether CSA's electrical code is the same or different on this point? Even more helpful, a specific article number that addresses this?

Thanks for any guidance,

Evan

RE: TEFC Motors in Class I Div 2 areas

CEC 18-168(b) states motors that do not incorporate arcing, sparking or heat producing parts may be of the non-explosion proof type. This is written for Zone 2 which is analgous to Div 2. CEC J18-168(b), written for Div 2 is very similar but also makes mention of components connected to IS systems.
