Importing AUTOCAD files into PROTEL ?

Importing AUTOCAD files into PROTEL ?

(OP)
Dear all,

I'm an electronic engineer but never done PROTEL seriously before!! I'd like to design a circuit that will sit on a board with an odd shape, having holes and curves everywhere. Can I import the board shape from Autocad and design my PCB there? I usually prefered to design the small PCBs in Autocad but this time the project is serious.
Any help is appreciated in advance.

RE: Importing AUTOCAD files into PROTEL ?

I'm pretty sure you can do this in all the most recent versions of protel. You import the shape as a .dxf / .dwg.

Prety standard functionality on pcb packages these days.

RE: Importing AUTOCAD files into PROTEL ?

Yes, you can import .dwg or .dxf into Protel.  I have had better  results with .dwg files.

If you need more help with Protel, I suggest you join the Protel EDA Users at www.techservinc.com/protelusers/index.html this is a very useful source of help and general info.  They have a back up at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/protel-users/ for when the other e-mail server is down.

If you are using Protel DXP, there is another users group available from the Protel web site:
