Foam Requirements for Internal Floating Roof Tanks

Foam Requirements for Internal Floating Roof Tanks

Foam Requirements for Internal Floating Roof Tanks

(OP)
We have an atmospheric storage tank storing Heavy Naptha that was converted from a cone roof to an internal floating roof a while back.  It has hard pipe up to the top of the tank (where you can hook up foam in case of a fire) that leads into a box with this coiled up hose in it.  The idea is that under pressure the foam will uncoil the hose and allow it to be released into the center of the tank.  It is made of asbestos and probably 50 years old, so we want to replace this hose.  We have had had no experience with this design foam system and do not know what to replace it with.  We are also wondering if it should have been revised when they changed from a cone roof to an internal floating roof?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RE: Foam Requirements for Internal Floating Roof Tanks

Try:
NFPA-11 Low Expansion Foam
NFPA-30 Flamable Liquids Code

Both are available as pdf downloads from www.nfpa.org

Some internal floating roofs require full-surface protection, others rim area only.
