Storm Drain Attachment Standard

Storm Drain Attachment Standard

Storm Drain Attachment Standard

(OP)
I have been given a standard for attaching a drain pipe to a storm drain. It is for the City of San Diego.  The standard that is referenced is D-63.  Essentially I am connecting a 10 inch drain pipe into the preformed concrete box located below grade at the curbside.  Does anyone know how to find a 2D detail of this attachment method?

RE: Storm Drain Attachment Standard

altor,

Here are all the specifications and details for the City of Los Angeles storm drains, huge amount of information and details:

Hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck.

RE: Storm Drain Attachment Standard

When I was with Mpls., we always fought anyone wanting to connect to the back of a catch basin. Every time someone slipped one by, the CB box failed or the pipe to CB leaked. When the soil washed out, we got the lawsuits for the "fall downs". It makes more sense and costs more for the property to connect at a manhole in the street. It also couldn't be slipped in with out a proper inspection by the City.

Thanks Dick,
This attachment was suggested by the City and then approved by permit to do it. I had initially presented a plan to build a french drain and discharge through an under-sidewalk drain to the street.  However that was superceded by them to discharge into the box.
In the course of submitting the plan, the city engineer added the 'D-63' connection and I didn't understand how it is done.  So somewhere there is a standard that shows how it is made.  I would ask you if it is merely a core through the box and sealing via a flange or different attachment all together.

Coring the back and using a good sealer'waterproof' caulk will work the cover with a concrete collar. there are flexible sealers out there. Hansen Pipe has one that is installed in manholes that seems to work very well. It is a neoprene sleeve that is attached to the inside of the cored hole by a stainlees expanding band. The pipe is connected with a stainless band also. I would ask the city for a copy of their 'connection spec.' It is probably a CALTRANS. spec.

RE: Storm Drain Attachment Standard

as far as I can tell, there is no D63 Caltrans standard plan
