simmetry in patran

simmetry in patran

(OP)
Hi everyone
please help me, I'm novice in using patran and I'm not been able to discover how to use simetry in a simulation.

In marc I used to define the problem as axialsimetric or I defined a plane as plane of simmetry but in patran I'm not able to.

I thank's you in advance

Best regards

RE: simmetry in patran

Alex;
If you are using Marc, all you need to do in atran is to keep your geometry in X-Y space (Z=0 everywhere) and keep the X axis as your axisymmetry axis, that is all. Also, all the normals of the shell elements must be in the positive Z direction.

RE: simmetry in patran

A three-dimensional model (Z not equal to 0) can be modeled using symmetry. What you need to do is divide your model in half, quarters… wherever there is symmetry. The toughest part is to make sure your boundary conditions are symmetrical and have no displacement across the symmetrical boundary. In other words for solid constrain the node on the symmetrical plane need zero displacement normal to the plane. For shell models make sure you add the moment constraint. Your loads also have to have mirrored images on side that you are not modeling (symmetrical planes = mirrored plane). Symmetry should not be used for modal analysis.
