Does anyone know how to activate liquid sodium silicate with aluminium sulphate solution? I am a Nigerian based Water Chemist. My water utility is about introducing activated silica in our raw water treatment.

RE: ACTIVATION OF S. SILICATE WITH ALUM

Hello,
I think that they usually neutralize a dilute sodium silicate solution with dilute acidic solution to form solution which SiO2 amount is app. 1 %. Other activants than acids can also used. I don't know what are these other suitable activants. Acticated silica is usually used as coagulant aid to form flocs that settles fast.
