Define start AND end date

Define start AND end date

Define start AND end date

(OP)
Hi all,

I'd like to define a task that starts on the 02. Jan. 2004 and ends on 30. Jan. 2004.

Is it possible to say to project "Start date of the task should be 02. Jan 2004 and end date should be 30. Jan. 2004

AND PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THESE DATES."

Thanks in advance

RE: Define start AND end date

I'm  not clear on where you're having trouble.

So long as work hrs or resources have not yet been defined, the default is using a start/end date to set the duration.

Thanks for the question. Here's the background:

My example is that I want to plan the project management task of my project on a monthly base. That is, for each month of the current year I estimate an effort of 40 hours. Now I like to create a task "Project Mgmt" for each month that must not start before the first of the month and must not end after the last of the month.

It is this scenario that has lead me to the question of how to define two date restrictions for task.

RE: Define start AND end date

There's no clean way to do exactly what you're asking, BUT, you can insert a "Recurring Task" from the Insert menu, scheduled for the 1st day of each month with a duration of of something like 20 days, which will take of most months except possibly for Feb.  This insertion puts the start date for each month's task on the 1st working day of the month.

What Project does is to create a bunch of substasks which you can then edit for work hrs as well as the finish dates if needed.

RE: Define start AND end date

If you are linking these dates to 2 separate tasks, you may want to set up a "Hammock". Follow the steps for this in the help menu.

Cheers.
