SPEED LIMIT POSTING GUIDLEINES

SPEED LIMIT POSTING GUIDLEINES

(OP)
I am trying to find official guidleines for propper posting of speed limits in Ney York State.

I found a NYSDOT Traffic Design Manual on-line but that does not seem to contain the details I need (for a given speed limit, what are the required distances between postings).

Can anyone direct me to where I can find this info?

RE: SPEED LIMIT POSTING GUIDLEINES

This is more of a traffic issue than an AASHTo issue, but here goes...

In towns with more than 50 000 inhabitants, and on village and city streets, it's pretty much a political process.

On State highways, the policy is start with the 85% speed, then modify if justified by geometrics, development, political pressure, etc.

On county routes and town roads in towns with less than 50 000 people, the town board and county superintendent send a joint petition to NYSDOT, which then conducts a speed limit study.
