SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

(OP)
In using the new Revision table, I am not able to insert it in the sheet format, only in the .drwdot. (Right clicking to edit sheet format doesn't allow the insertion of a rev. table).  Because of this, I would like to save my .drwdot with the default Rev A "Released for Production" and use a linked custom property note "Design Date" for the auto insertion of the Rev A date.  That way, every new drawing already has this "default" information included for our company.

Can Custom Properties be included in Rev. tables?  Am I using the revision table the wrong way it was intended for?  Does sp1 solve these issues?

RE: SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

Rev Tables can be included in templates not sheet formats. I have done this. I add the first revision when I create the drawing from the template.

I have deleted the date from my sheet formats, and refer to the rev table instead. This gives me a "create date" in short format, which is not available in custom properties.

RE: SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

Todd,

I am sorry this is a bit belated, but this problem has been bugging me for ages, and I have only just found a way around it (it's quite simple too).

- I deleted the rev table from the drawing sheet.
- I then inserted a rev table into to the drg template.
- I added a new revision using RMB - revisions - add revision
- I entered 'Original Issue' (you would use 'Released for Production') in the description field.
- I deleted the date in the date field.
- I placed a standard SW note in the date field of the rev. table and linked it to my 'date drawn' custom property.
- Save the template.

Now whenever I create a new drawing, a 'datestamp' is placed in the rev table with the correct date, just like it used to in the drawing sheet, and there is no need to add the first revision when you create the drawing (as mentioned by CMcF above). Adding revisions later works as you would expect, placing the current date into the date field.

I have my rev table already set up in the dwg templates. If I were to insert it later into a dwg, it never looks the same as the saved rev table. The rev table in the dwg template has text set up the way we like it and the date is automatic.

RE: SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

I'm doing what what ctopher is doing with the templates. Just RMB to add your revision. I change the date with a note. We date our products like this: 31-OCT-2004. Any added sheets are labeled with "SEE SHEET 1 FOR REVISIONS"

RE: SW2004 Revision Table - Linking Date note to Doc. Properties

I too am doing what ctopher is doing macduff. All my method does is save the extra steps of inserting a new revision every time you create a new drawing (and also changing the date with a note).

I know it may sound trivial, but every extra step saved when creating about 20-30 drawings a day helps (it is also one more thing that you can forget to do).
