Photoworks - Settings for parts underneath a semi-Transparent part?
Photoworks - Settings for parts underneath a semi-Transparent part?
(OP)
Looking for an anwser, maybe one of you have found an answer to this.
I'm looking for someone that has done some photoworks renderings of a semi-transparent part that has parts inside it (or underneath) and can see the detail of the part inside?
I need to know what settings they used to see the part. When I render the model I get a silhouette of the model on the inside. The semi-transparent part looks good but not the part underneath.
Example - Hollow Sphere with a detailed part on the inside.
TIA,

RE: Photoworks - Settings for parts underneath a semi-Transparent part?
I think you need to overcome this through some settings in PhotoWorks Options. I haven't done this yet, but I think the settings under the Document Properties tab, Ray Tracing needs to be set to get proper rendering back through the transparent part. Probably the Depth Settings for Reflections and Refractions need to be at least 2 and 1, respectively.
If that fails, contact Brian Hill at bxhdesigns. He's a rendering Jedi and should have the solution.

Thanks CorBlimeyLimey and all who replied. I tried all your ideas, but I couldn't get them to work out.
I have to now take Mike Wilson's models apart and see how he made it.

RE: Photoworks - Settings for parts underneath a semi-Transparent part?
This was taken from the SolidWorks discussion site. It deals with the engine rendering on Brian Hill's site. He is explaining how he achieved the contour and transparent look of the engine. http://www.bxhdesigns.com/engine.htm
The following is comes from Brian.
"This seems to be a popular question, perhaps I should create a tutorial on this... hmmmm. Anyway, here is the quick explanation of how to do this effect:
1. On the PhotoWorks, Options, Advanced tab set it to render with Model and Contours.
2. Select all of the objects that you would like to appear 'transparent' (like the engine block in my image) and apply a simple plastic material to them. On the 'Illumination' tab of this material set the transparency to completely transparent.
3. In the scene editor set the shadows in the scene to 'Transparent'
4. Render - you should be able to see the beginnings of the effect now.
5. If you notice black regions appearing in your render that shouldn't be there, go to the PhotoWorks, Options tab and increase the number of Refractions calculated by mental ray - and then re-render.
That should do it. Let me know if you have any problems.
