Chloride ion detection.

I am looking for a standard procedure (ASTM prefered) for the detection of the chloride ion.  This is in reference to corrosion of 300 series stainless steel autoclaves.  I have some information which utilizes silver nitrate.

RE: Chloride ion detection.

In an autoclave I assume you would deal with seals, insulation and/or coatings. Try:

ASTM F1277-95 Standard Test Method for Determination of Leachable Chloride in Packing and Gasketing Materials by Ion-Selective Electrode Technique

ASTM D512 Test Methods for Chloride Ion in Water

ASTM D2448-85 (1996)e1 Standard Test Method for Water-Soluble Salts in Pigments by Measuring the Specific Resistance of the Leachate of the Pigment.

ASTM C871-95 Standard Test Methods for Chemical Analysis of Thermal Insulation Materials for Leachable Chloride, Fluoride, Silicate, and Sodium Ions.

ASTM PS118-99 Provisional Standard Test Method for Water-Extractable Chloride in Aggregate (Soxhlet Method)

ASTM D512-89(1999) Standard Test Methods for Chloride Ion In Water

FSA NMG-202-96

Good luck
