MIG SPOOLGUN

MIG SPOOLGUN

MIG SPOOLGUN

(OP)
I have recently acquired much more "in the field" aluminum welding than my small machine and generator will handle.  I have a Miller 280NT on a truck.  Can someone help me select a spoolgun for "field" applications.  Thanks

RE: MIG SPOOLGUN

Hi there.
I know that personal preference prevails, but here is a link
for you, maybe you'll be as impressed as I was with the
reliability and long life of their products.

RE: MIG SPOOLGUN

I'm haven't used the 280NT power source so I don't know the amp rating or duty cycle.  I use the Miller Spoolmatic 1 in conjunction with a weld control box (WC-1). It is rated at 100% duty cycle @ 200 amps. I have used it with a CS 250 power source (electric) and a trailblazer (portable gas)both sources have a multipin connection for the WC-1. It is cooled with argon which makes outdoor welding somewhat difficult at times, but it seems to be a good setup. I've welded 1/4" plate and aluminum pipe (electrical busses) all day long with minimal trouble.

RE: MIG SPOOLGUN

I agree, the Spoolmatic is as near to troublefree as you can get and so is the box, but when you have to replace the conacts in the box you're in for an expensive surprise. It's been a couple of years since I've been involved with any aluminun work but I remember the price of the contacts was $350 if not more, hopefully it's dropped in price....Mike
