I've just begun the search for a SSR or similar power device to drive a new product.  The product will appear as a mostly resistive load (don't know angle yet) that requires a huge slug of heat up front, then a reduced level of heat to do fine control.

We will need about 15kW for about 0.5 sec to initiate the device.  Current thinking is to pull from one phase of a 480V service, drawing about 33A.  Then I will be backing off to the fine control where we would need to apply individual AC cycles under computer control, to obtain average heats in the 100 - 200 Watt range.  I had not planned on using a phase angle trigger, but rather zero crossing so we do not needlessly generate EMI.

At this point I'm seeking a SSR module that we can apply logic level or low level inputs to (48V and under) to control switching of the 480AC on an individual cycle or half cycle basis.  One that I've found looks like it may be a reasonable fit is the Omega SSRDIN660DC40.  Any suggestions are most welcome!!!

My expertise is in microcontroller systems not power interfacing so I joined the forum as another resource.

Perhaps it would be cheaper to build your own SSR. Any cost
etc. data ?

You might look at a Power-io DDA-6V40.

Off the shelf, reasonable cost, already UL approved. I think that they have a web site at power-io.com

We went with the Omega SSR I detailed in the original post.  I also suggested they use a K-Tec 480V ground fault circuit with insulation resistance tester.

I have handed off the concept to one of their employees to finish the implememnation.
