Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

(OP)
To start off i am an 18 year old who has been working at a cylinder head/mold and pattern shop for the past 2 years. there are only 2 of us working so i have had A LOT of surfcam experience. plus 2 years of auto-cad learning at a career center and some PRO-E during my first semmester of college.   personally i think that surfcam is way too powerful software to be used by such few people.   OK to get to my question,   i was wondering if anyone has frequent problems with a file becoming bad and closing itself down, and then not opening anymore.  Yesterday i had this happen while drawing an exhaust manifold.  It was about 4 days since i saved the file under a new name and now when i try to open it i get a "cstreamexception:invalid:expected double" and it doesn't open.  losing 4 days worth of work sucks,  i was just wondering if anyone has a remedy for such problems.  thanks for your help.

RE: Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

Sometimes the SIMM can fail.  We have had this happen a couple of times, but our symptom is that Surfcam won't open, or it looks as though it is opening, then shuts down.  Surfcam technical support has a piece of diagnostic software that can check for this problem.

In seven years use, have never had a corrupt file.

RE: Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

I just started to see this the past couple of days. I think it is a Surfcam2003 problem. Send the file to support@surfcam.com.

RE: Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

of course that should be @surfware.com

thanks for the quick input.  we have had a simm fail as well with the same results,  but this is, as you said, some sort of file corruption.   i am pretty sure it is directly related to having too many corrupted surfaces (ones that won't pass a edit, surface, check).  the file i was working with was the outside of a complex shaped, thin walled object, that i used the offset surface command on a lot.  i have already caught myself up to where i was 2 days ago, but this time i used offset cross sections to create cleaner surfaces (this will help the programing time too).   thanks again tom and hds.

RE: Need to get the word out about this site - file problems

The problem is supossed to fixed in the latest build code that was released last monday the 19th. My guess is that if you get a splash error when opening surfcam and then keep working that causes the problem.

Here is hte bug report.

14064 File Open / Fails User gets this error when trying to open a file saved earlier that day. Error: CStreamException:Invalid:expected CVersion. CAMcad Technologies     11/06/03 12/29/03
