Water hammer

(OP)
Dear all,
Can anyone explain what is a water hammer?
And what's the use of flash tank.

Thanks a bunch.

RE: Water hammer

byblos--I believe you're interested in water hammer in steam systems.  Suggest you read one of the articles at www.kirsner.org on water hammer in steam systems.  You'll learn that it is imperitive to not let steam-- even flash steam-- become entrapped in subcooled condensate.  The reason for a flash tank is to separate flash steam from condensate and thereby either reclaim the flash steam for use elsewhere, or, waste it to atmosphere, but at least, get it out of the condensate system.
