Hi-Temp Sealed Ball Bearings

Hi-Temp Sealed Ball Bearings

Hi-Temp Sealed Ball Bearings

(OP)
I've been trying to locate deep groove ball bearings with seals that are rated to about 400 deg. F.

I am not looking for High Temperature ball bearings.  Just standard bearings that are available with seals that will withstand elevated temperatures.

Does anyone have any sources or ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Hi-Temp Sealed Ball Bearings

I doubt you will find any “standard” bearing that will run at 400° F. Most lubricants and seals fail at lower temperatures.
The Tribology engineering threads may provide some lubrication options.

Thanks EdDanzer, but once again I'm not looking for the bearing, just the bearing seals.  I got the bearing and lube covered -  just need the seals separate or standard bearings fitted with the special seals.  Thanks for the Trib lead.

RE: Hi-Temp Sealed Ball Bearings

We have been testing seals that see temperatures up to about 500° F max. so far glass filled Teflon with a viton o-ring has preformed the best. In our application the o-ring sees lower temperatures, and only a small portion of the ring sees the 500°. This application is at a low speed. Glass filled Teflon has a P/V of about 10,000 but the P is limited to about 200 psi and the V 225 ft/min.  This is information from a plane bearing handbook Bearings, Inc. published in 1989.

Check out American VariSeal at the following website. I used some of their seals at 485°F and they performed as advertised.

RE: Hi-Temp Sealed Ball Bearings

You can have seals and grease that can
withstand that temperature but you will
slowly draw back the hardness of the bearing
rings and rolling elements.

SKF have a range of deep groove ball bearings specially adapted for high temp use. They have graphite cages and special seals. Ask your local SKF dealer.
