Check Xrefs Outside Autocad,,,

Check Xrefs Outside Autocad,,,

Check Xrefs Outside Autocad,,,

(OP)
Hi,

Does anyone know how to get info about autocad drawings whether they include Xrefs or not, and if included, to get the names of the xrefs WITHOUT running Autocad? Is there a freeware or shareware for that? Thanks for any recommendation or answer.

RE: Check Xrefs Outside Autocad,,,

Xref command is used to reference an existing drawing into the current drawing.  To view what files are referenced by using the xref manager dialog box.  Files that are referenced have the normal ext DWG.  I think you are out of luck in finding what files are referenced outside Autocad. Hope this helps - John.

You can do it, but what do you know about VBA programming? The  ObjectDBX library can do it for you.

Dear Borgunit,

Thanks for the idea. I know some about VB.Net, I can write some simple or mid-level programs but not complex ones. I read and heard some about ObjectARX but dont know ObjectDBX. I'll try to find. I'll appreciate if you share  a bit more idea about this. Thanks in advance,

regards from Tokyo

RE: Check Xrefs Outside Autocad,,,

As others have posted I am sure there are utilities out there that can do (or be programmed to do) what you want...

With AutoCAD you can use DesignCenter's FIND/Search tool and look for all XREFs being used as they apply to a group of DWGs, or for a specific file being used as an XREF in multiple files.

See the link below (watch word wrapping) for an elearning tip.

AutoCAD – Don’t Delete that Xref file
Posted: 07/15/2003
Before you delete, move or rename a DWG file, you might want to find out if it is used an External Reference. Many a drawing project has been disrupted by simple file operations that seemed harmless. Determining if a file is used an External Reference before deleting, moving or renaming, can avoid this disruption. This tip will show you how, with the DesignCenter command in AutoCAD, this is a snap.
