bonding guy cables

bonding guy cables

bonding guy cables

(OP)
Please understand that this is a structural engineer asking here:

Is the mere fact that there is a contact between guy cables connectors enough to provide bonding for a steel tower. The bottom of the guy cables is grounded to three 0.75-inch rods that are spaced 20 feet apart in triangular plan view and 20 feet deep. Or jumper across the conncetion points is required?

RE: bonding guy cables

If the guy wires are simply resting on the structure the connection could develop a high resistance with corrosion products at the interface. You could use a type of grease available from lightning equipment suppliers ( e.g. FURZE in UK ) to seal the interface.

RE: bonding guy cables

Suggestion: The guy cables provide the longer path and the higher resistance to a lightning strike. Therefore, currents in guys will be smaller.
