I use desktop web items, Yes I know they're bad for speed and nasty all round but...

I'm trying to get Eng-Tips to be a web item, but every time I make it so, I end up unable to reference the categories.  I can't see a way of logging in every time I update.  I've also tried referencing the javascript:closebox() in the URL but can't make it work.  (I don't care if I end up logged in on the item or not.)

Does anyone know of a way to do this??

RE: Desktop Items.

I'm confused, if you allow the cookie to be written, you're automatically logged on every time you access this site.

ah yes so it will, ta.

RE: Desktop Items.

As far as shortcuts are concerned, Yahoo Companion toolbar works pretty good for up to 1000 shortcuts.

The main attraction is that the shortcut info is stored in Yahoo, so you can go to any other computer, install Companion and get your shortcuts.

I don't really see much advantage to having web shortcuts on the desktop.

not web shortcuts but web objects. mini browsers on my desktop that I can scroll and keep up to date with.  rather than going to each of my favorites and checking the changes, they all log on and update themselves automatically when I log in, and I can instantly read them all.  It's like my own personalised paper. :)

I checked to keep a cookie, and sure enough when I Mozilla to eng tips, I'm already logged in, but still not on the web object, the little pop up is annoying me lots, as I can't see and read my topics.
