12L14 and Weldability

(OP)
I don't understand why all of the manuals and data books state 12l14 as being very difficult to weld. I've even seen one reference that states that it cannot be case-hardened.  We weld 12L14 all of the time with very good results (we know that there is a lead emissions issue) and this is a beautiful material to caseharden.  Any 12l14 experts out there who would care to comment?
