Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

(OP)
Hi
I have a sub-assembly inside the main assembly. When I explode the main assembly the sub-assembly does not get exploded.
Even if I explode the sub-assembly in a seperate file it does not get updated in the main assembly.
My Req: is to get explode all the subassembly when i explode the main one.
Any suggestions,gurus??????????????

RE: Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

The only solution I see is to explode each component in the subassembly individually.  This option is available when manually creating an explode step.  When manually creating an explode step, there are radio buttons for options to move entire subassemblies or individual subcomponents.

You may wish to make your exploded view by first moving the entire subassembly to a new exploded position, and then exploding individual components from the subassembly.

RE: Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

Never tried this, but what if you did your subassembly expolode in its own configuration as normal, then switch it to this configuration (component props) in the exploded top assembly configuration?  I would have though that would work?  I don't do explodes, so I'm just guessing - I leave that to the drafters.

I was - and he did. So at least I didn't get coal.....

RE: Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

I would suspect that would be an enhancement request...but 2003 lets you select derived configs...since exloded view is derived?...maybe that would work?  I haven't tried it, but it's worth looking into.  I could see the value in having this option available.  Good luck and let us know what you find and with what version of SWX

RE: Exploded view of sub assembly inside main assembly

You need to explode your subassembly AT THE ASSEMBLY LEVEL.

Explode states of subassemblis can not be displayed in a higher level assembly (enhancement request time?).

Yup, Arlin.  I tested this last night at home.  At least on SW2003 you can't do it except at the full assembly level. an' I got real sneeky about it too.... almost crashed it at one point.
