Removable insulation covers

Removable insulation covers

Removable insulation covers

(OP)
Hello, everyone.

I work for a manufacturer of removable / reusable insulation covers, and we're beginning to receive a lot of orders for valve covers.  I've researched many of these valves, and was wondering if there might be a source of more detailed information on common valve types, included those dimensions usually unspecified in manufacturer cut sheets.  We need pretty exact dimensions to design custom-fit covers, and rarely receive them.  In fact, we usually end up on site, trying to accurately cover the valves.

Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Removable insulation covers

You have your task cut out as to valve dimensions.  I think you will have to pick some types and styles to that are fairly common to start with. The take out, flange to flange is the essentially  the same for all valves of the same class.  There are a few valves with different takeouts but these are getting fewer and fewer.
As you are making flexible covers you might get enough dimensions to make a generic cover for say a  6" 300# steel gate valve.  There are a lot foreign valves in service now with the proper takeout but different bonnets.
Depending on your location you might see if you can access to a large valve distributor or large refurbishing shop and pull some measurements.  You might look at their website cute sheets.

I would look at the following websites for starters and see what type information is available.

RE: Removable insulation covers

I run across a number of insulation "blankets" for valves. The ones I see have eyelets for threading S.S. wire to lace them up to the valve. The ones I see are universal and rely on the lacing to choke up or loosen up to fit on the valves. I would think it would be a mistake to build a blanket that can only be used on one valve. I would think that a good insulation blanket need to be flexible enough to handle any like valve of the same size and class. I see steams valve replace fairly regularly but not always with the same valve manufacture. Just my 2 cents, Good Luck! ...Mark
