Feasibility of rivets/ply orientation/sealing end of plys

Feasibility of rivets/ply orientation/sealing end of plys

(OP)
Changing weldment to fiberglass composite (composites being completely new to me) and was hoping to get a couple things sorted out in my head:

1) I'm using mil-p-25421, type ii, class I, cloth base #181 for my ply's.  I want as few ply's as possible but the part will be secured using 1/8" blind rivets.  This material has an average thickness of .010.  How many ply's do I need to make rivets a sound method of construction?  Currently I'm using 3 plys but am debating bumping the flanges which carry the rivets up to 5 or 6 plys.

2) Since this is a completely new area for me, any advice about a specification to read concerning sealing of the trimmed ends?  They will be relatively static with no forces being applied directly to them although temp is an issue.  Working in high temp environment.

3) Lastly, there is an optional flange to be attached to this piece.  I will have to be cold bonded or oven cure.  Pointing me in a spec direction for this as well would be helpful in educating me.

Again, apologies for the fundamental questions but new job combined with no resident composite folks is making me wing it a bit....

Thanks.
