Gear Motion in Solidworks 2001

Gear Motion in Solidworks 2001

I am designing a gear rack in Solidworks 2001. Is there a way to show correct motion between the gears. I have tried parallel parallel mates between two planes going through the center of each gear but the gears are moving in opposite direction. I am new at Solidworks.

RE: Gear Motion in Solidworks 2001

OK, guys, I did check the post date this time.

2001 is very old.  There are gear mate methods in 2003 and up.  you can drive one rotating object at a ratio from another, n'est pas ladies and gentlemen?  I did it once for kicks but we don't use that kind of thing here.

I don't think you could even use collision detecion, etc., let alone physical dynamics in 1002.

You need to update to a recent rev of SW.  Are you restricted like student or home use?

RE: Gear Motion in Solidworks 2001

About the only thing that might work in SW2001 would be to apply an angle mate to one gear, then use equations to drive another angle mate in the second gear.

If you are talking a large gear train, you might be better off breaking out the calculator and determining your final drive ratio.  Use SW01 as a tool to represent the design space of your gear train.

I am a home user. Thanks for your inputs. I probably should upgrade. Any deals out there on the upgrade.
