Importing various 3d images

Importing various 3d images

Importing various 3d images

(OP)
an easy one i hope but i'm extremely new to this.

I am just designing some layouts and thought i could save time by grabbing general furnishings off the web, found sites that have free downloadable stuff in files such as 3ds, wrl and max but how can i use or import these as they will not simply open from the file menu.

Cheers

a very struggling dave

RE: Importing various 3d images

The wrl file should open in SolidWorks.  When you are in the open files dialog box scroll the file types until you find vrml .wrl.  Under the options settings you will want to import the data as a solid.  I have had good luck with this format.  The 3ds or max can be used but you would need to find a translation software to convert them to a usable format.  The software does exist if your willing to pay for it.
