Looking for info about Steel Corrosion from Sulfides etc.

Looking for info about Steel Corrosion from Sulfides etc.

Looking for info about Steel Corrosion from Sulfides etc.

(OP)
I am looking for information about Steel Corrosion from
sulfur, sulfides, sulphides, sulphates, sulfates; specifically: reactions, methods, chemistry, mechanisms, etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look to explore
this topic? I am specifically looking at Carbon steel.

Thank you very much in advance,
MA

RE: Looking for info about Steel Corrosion from Sulfides etc.

I suggest you contact the IISI (international Iron & Steel Institute), to quote from their web site:

>The International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) is a non-
>profit research organisation which serves as a world forum
>on various aspects of the international steel industry.
>Founded in 1967 with headquarters in Brussels, Belgium,
>IISI was the first international association dealing
>solely with one industry.
>
>The International Iron and Steel Institute is recognised
>worldwide as an invaluable source of information
>concerning the steel industry, by industry analysts,
>international media, the United Nations, universities and
>research institutes and all others involved in following
>developments within the field of engineering materials. It
>provides the fastest and most comprehensive service on >steel production and trade statistics and publishes >authoritative reports on all aspects of the industry.

If these boys can't help you, chances are no one can - look at www.iisi.org

Andy

RE: Looking for info about Steel Corrosion from Sulfides etc.

...Bruns (1957) found a black ferromagnetic material, kansite, forming during corrosion of chromiunm steel by hot H2S...[from: Morse and others 1987].

I've never read this Bruns, but my experiences on anoxic-sulphidic muds show fast transformations that are possibly enhanced by bacterial enzymatic activity [see my paper Zaggia and Zonta (1997)].

Try to get these references and let me know if they were of help. Luca
