sulzer multistage boiler feed pump with oil leakage from DE and NDE bearings knife edge seals renewed run for approx. 4 hrs before leak reappeared has anyone modified these seals or tried wipers etc.

RE: boiler feed pump oil leakage

Ask the pump manufacturer.

Knife edge seal? A cup seal? It could be that the shaft was also worn at the seal point.

RE: boiler feed pump oil leakage

The "knife edge seal" is a brass ring calked into a groove in the bearing shells non contact with 0.003" clearance.
pump manufacturer suggests coupling windage this can be
eliminated as there are several pumps but only two have serious leaks.
