brass welding
brass welding
(OP)
Hi
I have a project to do over the xmas break that involves welding brass. Not sure of the type only that the material is approx 15-20 years old and the equipment came from Germany.(Shoe making dies)
I was wondering what process to use,(Mig,Tig or Gas) and what type of rod.The material is approx 3/16" thick
regards

RE: brass welding
Try on the edge as the material may have high arsenic or lead in the composition and may not want to weld. If the material is fairly porous I would bake it out at least
350°F for a couple of hours.
Watch very closely as a lot of these type bronze alloys are real bad to crack. I would cool slowly after welding.
I've had both good and bad luck on similar projects.
Weld or braze in ventilated area, for the welder.
Wish you good luck and good welding/brazing.
