Display of Solidworks docs in assembly level ?
Display of Solidworks docs in assembly level ?
(OP)
HI
Can any one explain me the reason behind the following issue
Ive created an assembly say A.sldasm which contains a subassembly B.sldasm . The B assembly has two parts doc say 1.sldprt & 2.sldprt.Now the A.sldasm is my active ocument . Then I opened the B.sldasm by right click from the A.sldasm feature tree. Then in B.sldasm I inserted some 2 parts say 3.sldprt & 4.sldprt.Now I closed the B.sldasm without saving . Now the Solidworks returns to the A.sldasm .Now I
dont know why the B.sldasm subassembly still shows the parts 3&4.sldprt even though Ive haven't saved the B.sldasm ?.

When you open an assembly and then change some component, the changes remain in memory because the assembly is still open, even if you close the component file.
When you save an assembly, SW will save all the components files. If you don't want that to happen, you must close the assembly file without saving.
To prevent that (it is important if you have parts in database that you don't want to change) you must:
1 - change your files in database to read-only
2 - go to OPTIONS\EXTERNAL REFERENCES and check the box "Open referenced documents with read-only access"
If you have only checked "Open referenced documents with read-only access", you cant still force SW to save a component file (but this will be difficult to do by accident).
