AFD emergency disconnect

(OP)
The US navy no longer trust (most) microproccessor AFD drives on crane hoist motors to be shut down (ie upper limit switch) using the AFD's built in logic/ discrete input. Therefore I am faced with the prospect of opening the three legs of the input or output of the AFD. I am worried about opening the output legs as the inductive spike of voltage may wipe out the drives output power devices. Would there be a potential problem with opening the three input legs to the drive? Or what would be the best option? (I also have to open the break release control as well but that is not an issue)

This drive is an electromotive systems 2017-afg+, and no I have not contacted the manuf. yet.

Thanks
