Pattern parts in an Assy
Pattern parts in an Assy
(OP)
Is there a way to pattern parts in an assy along a pre-defined curve. I don't think there is.
I can pattern a body in a multi-body part to achieve the desired effect, but I want an assy. Any suggestions?

RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
One work around might be to create a set of dummy features to pattern to and then hide them afterwards...but thats a kludge.
Let me know if you figure something out.

Thanks for the help and any further comments.

Insert>Component Pattern>Define your own pattern (Local) and Arrange in a circular fashion (Circular)>Next>Set yor positions>Finish"
That command is from SW03. It's different In SW04.

RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
Shaggy18VW didn't mention what version was being used. Unfortunately I do not have 2004.
Does 2004 not have a similar function?
Why would SW remove it?
Thanks for the heads up, anyway.
RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
I'll investigate the above mentioned options. Thanks
RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
Thanks for the heads up, but I am confused. I dont have SW04 & Shaggy18V did not specify which version was being used. Are you saying that SW has removed the ability to make a circular array of a part in an assembly, other than by using a pattern feature of another part? Why would they do that?
RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
What I posted to you was only an FYI - I didn't mean to offend you.

You can still make a circular pattern. Insert\Component Pattern\Circular
In my first message I mentioned that - In SW04 you can use a feature of a part. Insert\Component Pattern\Feature Driven. The other choices are Linear and circular.
Shaggy,
You posted above that your looking for something like a Curve driven pattern in an assembly. That's no availalbe in an assembly. Like CorBlimeyLimey has pointed out above... that is the only way, that I'm aware of, that you could control a pattern like that in SW03.

RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
No offence taken. I'm grateful for the update.
You mention that it is different in SW04. In what way?
In casae you were wondering, the duplication of reply was because my web page synchronization is screwed up. I have to do a refresh to see the latest reply, including my own. So I thought my first reply had not gone through.

RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
Basically you are trying to do a circular pattern while doing a linear pattern at the same time right?
I'm trying to stack circular plates with arrays of holes in them. But at each level of the stack, the plate needs to be rotated slightly by the center axis.
Things i've tried:
1. creating a part that has a helical sweep, creating it as a surface and mating a point on the disk to the surface then doing a linear pattern. However, as the pattern progresses, the point to surface mate doesn't get copied to the next part.....it simply stacks
2. circular pattern as described here....there is no linear motion to the pattern
3. in the helical sweep part, doing a pattern along curve at the right interval and trying to use that as a feature driven pattern in the assembly. getting the error :cannot pattern: could not find proper pattern location
is there a way to do a linear pattern + circular pattern at the same time?
is an equation based assembly required?
is there a way to do some kind of reference pattern?
there are lots of examples of things moving along splines, but I have never seen an example of say bricks stacking along a spline
RE: Pattern parts in an Assy
There is a post about a helical pattern, but it didn't go anywhere.
