maintenance plan for gas turbine generator

(OP)
hi people.u have been doing a great job here on this site.
i need some information on the maintenance programme for a gas turbine generator unit.
our company, currently has four gas/diesel powered turbine generators, with a network of back up diesel generators.the turbines are named European Gas Turbines,EGT, manufactured by RUSTON and the plant is about 20years old.the problem now is that the availability of power from the plant is very low.this has given us a lot of concern.in my country, there are no other firms that have this kind of turbine.
what i need is information from you guys, especially those that have worked in the power generation industry on the appropriate maintenance program that i can implement to improve the availabilty of the turbines.i reall will be grateful.thanks

RE: maintenance plan for gas turbine generator

EGT/Ruston are still in business, based in Lincoln UK. They are now part of Siemens. Their website is http://www.industrial-turbines.siemens.com

They still support the earlier turbines (Typhoon, Tornado etc.).

skeandhu, thanks for the effort.the turbine type is TB5000 and is rated at 3MW but the power setting was adjusted to 2.8MW because of the tropical nature of our environs.any ideas?thanks people

RE: maintenance plan for gas turbine generator

Hi VMAC if have a fair bit of experience on Ruston TB5000's, however not in a tropical environment. By what you've mentioned it looks to me as though you will be experiencing problems with your intake air. As you probably know the humidity will be helping to block your intake filters. Obviously your ambient air temperature will be quite high, these two thing on their own can cause significant reduction in power. You have to check your air filters often, Pre and main filters, also it is important that the seal pot below the filters is kept topped up with distilled or potable water. Also check the Blow in Doors are correctly closed or you will have un-fitered air going into the engine. Your operators should be monitoring the engine operating temperature closely, when the engine temperature increases 20 degrees they should be cleaning the engine with walnut shells introduced into the air intake while the machine is running, this cleans the compressor and you will see the operating temperature of the machine return to normal. The higher the ambient temperature of the air the less power output your turbine will have. I hope this helps, if you ask something more specific i should be able to help.
