Insert Model Items--Including Ref. Dims.

(OP)
Does anyone know how to insert reference dims from part files not included in the part sketch into a drawing using (insert model items)

Example:  How would you automatically show the extrusion length of a simple sketch in a drawing using (insert model items)?

RE: Insert Model Items--Including Ref. Dims.

Go to Tools, Options, Document Properties, Detailing.

Under 'Auto insert on view creation' ensure that 'Dimensions marked for drawing is selected'. This will automatically put a dimension in for the extrusion length when you create the correct view.

(This is in SW 2004)

Also...expand the drawing view in the feature manager that coresponds with the view that you want the dim to be placed in...expand to the extrusion that is of concern and pick it there...now when you go to insert / model items...it will simply put in the dim for that feature.  Hope that is not way off from what you are needing.
