power factor capacitors

power factor capacitors

power factor capacitors

(OP)
ive got to do a survey of the capacitors on site for power factor say what size and what type ie oil filled paper pcb.i have the size but how do you distinguise whether they are paper etc.the make and type are MKP is this any use.

RE: power factor capacitors

One approach is contacting the capacitor manufacturer with can-label serial numbers.

RE: power factor capacitors

MKP is the abbreviation for a metallised polypropylene film capacitor. It will be a dry type - no PCB's, no oil.

Hope this helps.

RE: power factor capacitors

I confirm ScottyUK's post. If this is a description of the capacitor type then it is polypropylene film. Just ensure that it is not  a brand name only.

RE: power factor capacitors

Would one of you in this forum point me to a good resource to study the different options and technologies available for power factor correction.  I'm a mechanical engineer that needs to get up to speed starting with the basics.

Is there any consensus on the best approach?

Thanks
