Protection of CI in molten aluminum

Protection of CI in molten aluminum

(OP)
I am looking for a material coating which can be applied to cast iron that will protect the cast iron when submerged into a molten aluminum bath.  The coating would have to withstand 1400F temperatures, moderate abrasion, and expand similar to the cast iron.  I would prefer to keep the coating thickness as thin as possible for wieght concerns.

Thanks in advance,

RLJ

RE: Protection of CI in molten aluminum

Hi.  There is a company here in Oak Ridge that makes very high temperature coatings that are used for the very purpose you describe.  Their name is ZYP Coatings, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  I think you can apply it with a simple paint brush, or with a cheap paint sprayer from a hardware store.
