2004 bug?

2004 bug?

2004 bug?

(OP)
Could one of you experts out there please confirm what appears to be a bug in SW 2004 SP1.  My VAR isn't open yet this morning.

I am making a sketch of some text to indicate stamping some letters into a part.  I cannot seem to get the text to rotate.  The rotate button in the sketch text dialog box does nothing.  Putting <r90> into the text box by hand still does nothing except the <r90> appears in the sketch.  Rotating the whole sketch after exiting the sketch text dialog only rotates the base point of the text around the selected rotation point, leaving the text aligned the with the sketch coordinates.

If somebody can confirm this behavior I would appreciate it.

RE: 2004 bug?

Haven't tried to verify but a work around would be to place the text sketch at the default angle and then use the modify sketch tool to rotate the text sketch to the position you would like.  You could also try the enhanced sketch-move-copy-rotate tools in 2004.

rockguy,

Read the post.  I tried using the sketch rotate/copy tool (rotate the whole sketch after exiting the sketch text dialog) and it only rotates the text handle, leaving the text aligned the same as it was.  Try it!

RE: 2004 bug?

Just tried it.  You need to highlight your text first and then hit to rotate button in order for it to work.

thanks rockguy,

I hadn't hit upon highlighting the text, but it still does not do what I want.  It rotates each letter and then only the first line of text.  I want to rotate the text as a whole, so it is horizontal when my part is mounted.

I found a work around.  I drew a construction line aligned the way I wanted the final text and selected it in the sketch text curves box and it aligned all of the text properly.  Not very intuitive.

RE: 2004 bug?

Not sure if this will help but try sketching a line in the orientation that you want and then try placing your text.  When you place your text pick the line it should show up in the curves section of the sketch text box.  Then you can hide the line.
Hope that helps.

RE: 2004 bug?

Timelord,

Glad you figured it out.  I tried using the modify sketch tool.  It has an arrow arc with a plus and minus on the icon (located near the top of the sketch toolbar) and it rotated the text to any angle with no problem.  I then tried using sketch-copy-rotate tool and your right it only rotates the point.

I would have never thought to use a line as a curve and tried that option.  Thanks for the tip.

rockguy,

I learned something new from you.  I didn't even know there was a sketch modify tool.  I was trying to use the sketch move/copy or copy/rotate copy/scale (all the same tool).  I found sketch modify further down the tools/sketch tools and typed 90 degrees in the box and it worked.  I also tried grabbing the little icon in the sketch and it worked also in increments of 45 degrees.  Thanks for the feedback!  It never ceases to amaze me how many different ways there are to accomplish the same thing.

RE: 2004 bug?

When using the new Sketch Copy, Move, or Rotate command you have to make sure the Keep Relations option is checked or it will show up incorrectly. If you use the Tools\Sketch Tools\Modify it will work fine, but that is because the Keep relations is already set on by default  and it's not available to be changed.

Scott,

It doesn't matter if the keep relations box is checked or not, the sketch move/copy/rotate tool does not rotate text, and the modify sketch tool does.

RE: 2004 bug?

Oooo your doing text I read it wrong then (Sumarized it). I thought you were talking about a sketch in general.

In that case your right, but if you try using a regular sketch then use the "Keep Relations" checked, this should work.
